Balance, Performance, and Polish


This week’s update for Out of Space focuses on refining gameplay balance, optimizing performance, and polishing visual effects.

Here’s what’s new:

Engine & Tooling

  • Migrated the project to Godot 4.5, leveraging the latest engine improvements and bug fixes.

Spawn System Overhaul

  • Fixed irregular spawn density issues tied to screen size, ensuring consistent challenge across all resolutions.

Gameplay Balance & Mechanics

  • Adjusted rocket damage and speed for better pacing and difficulty balance.
  • Reduced the effective range of asteroid mines to encourage strategic placement.
  • Asteroid impacts now deal less damage to shields, giving players more breathing room.
  • The ammo refill power-up now restores ammo beyond the initial capacity, rewarding players during critical moments.
  • Ships stats like speed and pickup range have been updated to rebalance ships.

Visual & Performance Improvements

  • Replaced placeholder effects with a new particle-based explosion system for more satisfying feedback.
